On Saturday, "Squid Game" fell to second place on Netflix, with the third season of Netflix's "You" taking the top spot.

Only one show can top Netflix's US Top 10 list, much like the infamous Korean deathmatch.

While "Squid Game" had been number one for weeks, the hit Netflix television series fell to number two on Saturday after being dethroned by the streaming platform's popular thriller series "You," which had just released its third season.

The South Korean drama, which follows a group of strangers competing in twisted and deadly children's games for a large cash prize, was the top streamer in the US for 24 days. It fell short of the longest-running show on the streaming service, "Ginny & Georgia," which held the number one spot in the United States for 29 days earlier this year. "Squid Game," on the other hand, establishes a new record for a non-English program in the coveted position.

Netflix's "You," which is now in its third season and follows a murderous couple raising a newborn son in the suburbs, took the top spot after its Friday premiere.

After its September premiere, "Squid Game" became Netflix's most-watched show, with 111 million views. It quickly grew into a worldwide phenomenon, spawning viral memes, thousands of prank calls, a candy craze, pop-up stores, and even talk of developing a real-life game.

Despite losing its number one spot in the United States, the show remains at the top of Netflix's Top 10 in nearly 50 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and Hong Kong, according to the most recent data released on Friday. However, the show lost the number one spot in its home country of South Korea to another Korean show, "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha."

"Squid Game" is still the streaming service's global number one after 24 days, trailing the record set by Netflix's pandemic hit "Queen's Gambit," which had the longest streak for number one worldwide earlier this year with a whopping 46 days.

The show's strong performance bodes well for the streamer's investment strategy, which has included a shift toward international productions in the wake of the success of shows such as the Spanish series "Money Heist (La Casa de Papel)" and the French drama "Lupin."

Meanwhile, a second season of "Squid Game" has yet to be confirmed, though fans are speculating about a sequel to the first season.
